I wanted this guide to be a kind of field guide for newly married men. It would help them with situations that they encountered and how to hilariously deal with them.
In coming up with the aesthetic, I looked at quite a few field guides for birds, snakes, and even surviving a zombie apocalypse - had to cover all my bases.
There was a certain style that I landed on upon completion of my visual research.
In essence, I wanted it to look retro-modern. In simpler terms, I wanted the colors to look old, retro, cold war era manual style. Then the illustrations would be modern-looking.
I also incorporated a system where the main character has a mustache.
